Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent provides services for the Women Infant Children (WIC) Program in accordance with DHM 150 24, and the FL WISE User’s Manual. Incumbent is responsible to follow and adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Florida Department of Health (FL DOH) and the WIC and Nutrition Program. The incumbent in this position will have the authorized “need to know” access to confidential WIC client records, and the FL WISE data system. Assignments of Duty Station, hours and days worked may vary based on agency/unit needs. Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties. The incumbent of the position will work with a diverse population and will deliver services in English/Spanish or English/Creole.

 

Provides appropriate nutrition counseling and education to WIC participants.  Provides breastfeeding education to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women. Documents findings and recommendations for all clients in the WIC electronic record. Consults healthcare professionals and makes recommendations concerning nutritional findings and needs of clients. Makes appropriate referrals.

 

Assesses clients’ nutritional status and determine program eligibility based on income and nutrition guidelines. Assesses client’s breastfeeding status and refers to Breastfeeding Peer Counselors (BFPCs) and/or International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) as deemed necessary. Assists with obtaining heights, weights and completion of CLIA waived hemoglobin tests as directed by the delegated authority.

 

Develops, documents, evaluates and revises nutrition care plans and/or notes for individual high risk and medically high-risk clients. Makes referrals for appropriate services as needed.

Supervises and manages clinic operations in the absence of a Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor or as delegated.  Responsibilities include maintaining daily email and phone communication, managing unit staffing, and any other administrative requirements.

 

Follows policies and procedures for collection, entry and management of data as well as the operation of the FL WISE Computer System including but not limited to scanners, pin pads, network printers, and electronic databases i.e., Formula Tracking according to the FL WISE User’s System Manual and DHM 150 24.

 

Participates in Outreach activities including but not limited to Health Fairs, FL DOH Events, Community Programs, contacting healthcare professionals, contacting potential WIC clients, attending outreach activities, scheduling and rescheduling client appointments, and other outreach activities as assigned.

 

Ensures accurate completion and timely submission of all administrative records for incumbent and unit staff as delegated by supervisor including but not limited to: EARs, timesheets, leave requests, travel, monthly reports, SERVFL, Train Florida, etc.

 

Responsible for the organization and management of general education materials, office supplies, and displays as approved by the local and state agency. Attends all WIC Program and Florida Health in Miami Dade County meetings and/or other conferences as assigned. Attends and completes all mandatory in-service trainings. Participates in a minimum of one work group annually.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

Licensed Dietitian in the State of Florida., bachelor's or master’s degree in Nutritional Science, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, or Public Health Nutrition.

Preferred –

Incumbent in this position is preferred to be bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Creole.
