Annual Salary $52,559.78

Paid Bi-weekly

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have served as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States; and must have separated from such service under honorable conditions.

A DD-214 member copy 4 or comparable document MUST accompany your application.

In addition, the following is required:

  • Current employee of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the state of Florida, as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook
  • Proficiency with web-based applications and conducting work-related internet research
  • Two (2) years of experience using the VetraSpec computer management system
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license. 
  • Successful completion of a Level 2 Background Screening and due diligence process.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants with the following experience will be shown preference.

  • Two (2) years of experience in counseling, interviewing, and handling veterans’ affairs benefit services

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Proactively respond to inquiries, provide effective leadership and guidance to subordinates. Demonstrates a management style which is flexible, can accommodate change, and promotes an atmosphere which employees respect each other; want to grow and be motivated in that atmosphere. Supervisor coordinates claims activities using established policies and procedures to ensure all phases of assigned duties are accomplished. Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees. Foster an atmosphere of cooperation and compromise in an effort to achieve customer satisfaction.

Review and interpret Veterans’ Administration (VA) laws, rules and regulations affecting veteran’s entitlements in applying for state and federal veteran’s benefits. 

Meet, interview, counsel and obtain information in order to prepare and submit claims. 

Oversee the management of personal hearings with VA Representatives, Decision Review Officer (DRO), and Board Veterans Appeals (BVA). Insure preparation of hearing, notification to claimant and hearing preparation are completed.

Inspect forms and documents utilizing the Department’s VetraSpec system are accurate. This includes entering all clients’ information in the computer database.

Protect all private medical information and claims information in accordance with appropriate regulation and statutes. Maintains contact with veterans’ administration personnel at the regional office and Veterans’ Administration medical centers on matters related to requests and /or claims.

Respond to telephonic, written or inquiries from post and county service officers, veterans, and officials from other states relative to problems with the administration of veterans’ benefits with the local agency of jurisdiction.

Represent the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs by providing briefings and information on state and federal veterans’ benefits at local events, military bases, medical center meetings, community fairs, homeless stand downs and other events, as determined by supervisor and the department.

Deploy and provide assistance during State emergencies such as providing assistance at disaster recovery centers (DRC) throughout the state after natural disasters. 

Offer all veterans the opportunity to apply for voter registration.

Other duties as assigned by the Bureau Chief in support of the FDVA’s goals, objectives and mission.
