MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 

Six (6) months of experience in heavy equipment or automotive repair work.
 

Certificate of completion from a technical school for automotive/heavy equipment repair can substitute for the required experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
 

The incumbent of this position is subject to pre-employment, post-accident, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations, Title 49, Part 382, CFR.
 

Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment in the position in accordance with Section 112.0455 F.S. “Drug Test” means any chemical, biological or physical instrumental analysis administered for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of a drug or its metabolites.
 

The incumbent must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of appointment. The Florida Forest Service will cover the majority of the cost associated with attaining the required CDL training and the initial CDL test when administered at an agency authorized CDL training center.
 

Successful applicant will be subject to pre-employment and annual queries through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
 

Occasional to moderate travel required.
 

Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.
 

JOB DUTIES:
 

The incumbent of this position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all gasoline and diesel-powered heavy equipment.
 

Performs complete engine overhauls on gasoline and diesel equipment and overhauls valve, carburetor, and cooling systems.  Repairs gasoline and diesel-powered equipment to include rebuilding of major components on heavy trucks, crawler tractors and other specialized forestry equipment.  Repairs power train, transmission, clutch, brake, and suspension systems.
 

Assists in development, implementation, and constant review of preventive maintenance program.
 

Uses specialized tools and diagnostic equipment, welders and cutting torches, etc., to repair equipment.  Studies technical publications, specifications, and manuals.
 

Prepares computerized work orders and purchase orders on work performed, keeps list of parts and materials used in repairs.  Accurately prepares work orders to completion.  Purchases parts and supplies when directed by the supervisor.
 

Performs other related work as required and responds to emergency situations.
