This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Florida State Prison in the Education Department.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

Salary: $51,500.02 Annually

  • Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
  • Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a onetime $1,000 hiring bonus.

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

JOB DUTIES: (there should only be the top five duties listed)

The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans, develops, and conducts classes in the assigned subject(s).
  • Utilizes various teaching techniques and activities to assist students with their educational advancement.
  • Responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the class.
  • Conducts roll calls, counts, and maintains attendance records.
  • Ensures that order and discipline are maintained in the classroom.
  • Continually evaluates students and makes determinations as to overall progress. Administer grades and evaluates tests.
  • Counsels and advises individuals regarding their program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
  • Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops to identify needed curriculum changes and to facilitate professional development.
  • Assists in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.

The Level 2 background check includes fingerprinting for state and federal criminal records and may also include local criminal records checks.

According to Florida law (S. 110.1127(1)), this position requires a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
