MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, electrical or mechanical equipment; or
Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one (1) year of the required experience.
Requires possession of a valid driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must successfully pass a background check that includes a criminal history check and must be approved by the Department of Corrections Contract Manager, or designee and complete required orientation/training in the supervision of inmates, prior to assuming supervision. Shall attend refresher training annually thereafter.
Occasional to moderate travel required.
Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

ON CALL
JOB DUTIES:
Directly responsible for carrying out activities of the maintenance and construction of fixed facilities. This position will provide skilled workmanship in general carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.
Regularly carries out the work assigned to the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of fixed improvements to ensure all work is performed in accordance with building and safety standards.
Regularly performs skilled carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of fixed facilities.
Regularly inspects all fixed facilities to ensure that repairs and other maintenance are performed on a timely basis and in accordance with applicable safety and building standards. This includes 139 fixed facilities (residence, towers, pump houses, dining halls, etc.), and nine major recreational areas.
Regularly prepares materials list, specifications, and cost estimates in planning the construction of fixed facilities.
Responsible for supervising and directing activities of a crew of inmates or laborers in providing skilled and/or unskilled labor for the various operational phases of the Blackwater Forestry Center.
Regularly maintains and repairs heating and air conditioning equipment, electrical motors, and other electrical and mechanical equipment. This includes equipment associated with nine public water systems as well as other fixed facilities.
Performs other related work as assigned.
