This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Jefferson Correctional Institution in the Classification Department.

 

Salary: $37,117.08 Annually

 

SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

 

• Reviews all commitment documents received pursuant to F.S. 944.17 and independently determines applicability of State vs Green, State vs. Tripp, statutes, and legal advice in establishing sentence structure; codes on-line entry of sentencing provisions and adjusts sentence data as needed to ensure accuracy of release date calculations using appropriate felony offense codes and levels based on previous and current sentencing guideline provisions. Reviews computer calculations of overall term and independently determines if such calculation is in compliance with statute and case law; manually computes total jail time credit and verifies that

automated program is accurate. Notifies Classification staff, as well as Central Office, as to changes or adjustments in sentence structure following completion of verbal documentation of communication with various outside agencies. Coordinates with Central Office staff to identify recidivists as to type of post-release supervision violation which has occurred in order to properly document and establish current sentence structure. Establishes requested paperwork trail to ensure accountability for adjustments to inmate sentence structure. Implements changes in policy and procedures relating to sentence structure issues.

• Communicates with Public Defenders, State Attorney, Sheriff’s Offices and Clerks of the Court regarding technical or legal discrepancies in commitment documentation, or to clarify conflicts in sentence instructions with case law decisions or statutes. Establishes a suspense system and independently follows up to ensure receipt and processing of requested documentation or certifications. Performs in-depth search of inmate information system to detect errors in offender identification and number assignments. Ensures that appropriate sentence structure and mandatory/special provisions have been entered in the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) for printing of appropriate documents for inmate files.

• Reviews all commitments received subsequent to receipt of inmates. Determines if the commitment has to be completely processed under a new inmate number or if it can be administratively incorporated under the original number. Act as necessary in the inmate’s sentence structure. Makes all changes in the records that may be required by these court orders. Re-computes release date if necessary. Notifies Central Office of all changes that affect subject’s commitments not only by court orders but also by commitments that are received.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in typing or in the use of keyboard-controlled data input devices.
  • Ability to sort data alphabetically, numerically and categorically.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to plan/work productively in a busy environment and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work in direct contact with inmates.
  • Two or more years of data entry experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
