CRIME LABORATORY ANALYST - Impression Evidence Pool

Footwear and Tire

Impression Evidence is located in Tampa only.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum requirement(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Applicants will be considered trainees unless they have relevant forensic experience and an assessment by FDLE is satisfactorily completed. All qualified applicants are placed into a hiring pool.  As vacancies become available, you may be contacted for an interview.

Minimum Qualifications(1) A bachelor or advanced degree in physical, biological or forensic science from an accredited college or university with completion of at least 20 credit hours in physical or biological science-related coursework graded at a “C” or better; or (2) a non-science degree with completion of at least 12 credit hours in physical or biological science-related coursework graded at a “C” or better and a minimum of two years professional experience in the Footwear and Tire discipline in an accredited forensic laboratory or an accredited law enforcement agency.  (3) International Association for Identification (IAI) certification may substitute for the required college education.  (4) Professional experience in the Footwear and Tire discipline in either an accredited forensic laboratory or an accredited law enforcement agency may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Duties & Responsibilities:  Analyze diverse items of physical evidence for the detection, comparison and preservation of footwear & tire impressions.  This includes the utilization of highly technical processes for detecting and preserving footwear and tire impressions; including chemical, mechanical, and photographic.  Comparing footwear and tire impressions with known footwear and tires and making a critical determination of whether or not the impressions are from the same source. Compare footwear and tire impressions against laboratory references to possibly determine a manufacturer or model information.   

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques used in the analysis of physical evidence as it applies to the forensic laboratory. Knowledge of the procedure for packaging, handling and preserving evidence. Skill in the use of scientific laboratory equipment. Ability to analyze results, formulate conclusions and present findings verbally and in writing. Ability to give sworn testimony as an expert witness in court. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Notes: Applicants being considered for employment with FDLE will be required to submit to drug testing and a background investigation, which includes a financial credit check. Applicants may be notified by email to participate in a selection process. Failure to reply within a designated time frame may exclude the applicant from further consideration. Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy guidelines. Trainees will be required to sign an FDLE employment agreement and commit to employment with FDLE during training and for three (3) years after completing training. A financial penalty may be imposed for failure to complete the employment agreement. Training may take place outside of assigned region. This position is classified as Special Risk retirement, which provides members a greater retirement credit accrual rate and requires fewer years of service to reach full retirement benefits than is required for non-Special Risk members.
