Your Specific Responsibilities:

This advanced nurse practitioner position provides clinical care, exercises professional judgement and is responsible for the delivery of health care services to eligible clients of the Florida Department of Health in Collier County. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Specialist (APRN ) may initiate plans of care within their scope, performs within protocols, consults, and collaborates with the medical practitioner for all medical emergencies, medical issues outside the scope of APRN, and for administering and implementing nursing standards. This position requires the ability to exercise independent judgement in implementing the communicable disease clinical programs Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), HIV/AIDS, Adults Immunizations, Family Planning, Refugee Health, and other clinical services provided in the Adult Health Clinic.  The APRN will assist with formulating local clinic protocols, guiding the provision of clinical services and lab services and overseeing clinic staff patient care delivery. Provides medical coverage for the physician and Immokalee Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) as required. Continuously demonstrates the Department’s ICARE values. 

Clinical Services/Direct Patient Care

Works as a provider in the Florida Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier) Naple’s clinic. Provides medical services to patients seen in the communicable disease clinics including but not limited to STD, Family Planning, and HIV/AIDS.  Administers immunizations, medications, and treatments within the established CHD protocols. Provides Adult Immunization services.  Collaborates with the clinical care team and HIV case managers to initiate HIV treatment through the test and treat process.  Manages ongoing HIV treatment.  Provides HIV  PrEP services and supports nPEP programs in accordance with the Florida Department of Health HIV program guidelines. Possesses and demonstrates clinical competence in the TB program to allow for continuity of care of program operation as needed. Oversees clinical management of the STD credentialed nurse/ Family Planning nurse and ensures adherence to nursing protocols.

 

Family Planning Program Services

Coordinates and provides the provision of family planning services including female inmates in the Collier County Jail. Provides Family Planning clinical services at the DOH-Collier Naples site. Develops local family planning protocols and process maps to maximize clinic efficiency and client outcomes. Participates in Family planning QA/QI activities and identifies opportunities for improvement.

Clinical Coordination/QI/QA

Develops written protocols and process maps to standardize operations and maximize clinic efficiency and client outcomes. Monitors use the contracted resources (lab, x-ray, medical supplies) and assures optimum use of limited resources. Reviews clinical care and documentation using an established chart review tool quarterly to ensure assessments, diagnosis, evaluation and treatment activities and timelines are being met and develops and implements corrective action/improvement plan as indicated. Contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and processes improvements and participation in performance management committees, councils, and/or workgroups. Actively participates in DOH-Collier and Regional HIV/AIDS Consortium QA/QI activities and completes assignments by due date. Develops and implements QA monitoring tool(s) for evaluating clinical care metrics to identify QI opportunities for improvement. Develops and implements plan for addressing identified areas for improvement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Demonstrated competence in the areas of emotional intelligence, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, and management.
  • Demonstrated APRN clinical skills in the areas of adult assessment, physicals, primary care, STD, Family Planning and TB.
  • Knowledge & skill in treating TB and STD clients.
  • Experience collecting, manipulating and analyzing data.
  • Proficiency in using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of current standards of care for TB and STD’s.
  • Experience using Health Management System (HMS) or other electronic medical record.
  • Proficient writing and grammatical skills.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

REQUIRED:

  • Certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, and in accordance with Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code, or certification as a Physician’s Assistant in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes.
  • HIV/AIDS 501 Certification.
  • Valid American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • Valid Driver License and reliable transportation.  
  • Proficient at performing phlebotomy.

 

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
