DESCRIPTION:

This position functions as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Immunization area of the clinic. This position is responsible for administering vaccines and providing education and counseling to clients regarding vaccines. Assists with maintaining clinic supply inventory, vaccine inventory and vaccine accountability. This position enters vaccines they have administered into the Florida Shots Registry and imports these services into Health Management System (HMS). This position must assure compliance with the Florida Department of Health security policy at all times. This position covers clerk position as needed. This position will assist with outreach clinics and outbreak emergencies. This position will participate in Quality Improvement (QI) projects. This position reports directly to the Senior Licensed Practical Nurse-SES position.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Licensure as a Florida Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with F.S. Statute 464, American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, and a valid Driver’s License are required. Pediatric immunization experience and Fluency in English/Spanish or English/Creole are valuable. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency or as needed.

 

EMERGENCY DUTY required of the incumbent includes working in Special Needs or Red Cross Shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers immunizations to clients in a clinical setting in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, utilizing the guidelines of the DOH-Collier guidebook, policies and procedures of the DOH-Collier and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines
  • Provides education and counseling to clients regarding vaccines
  • Enters immunization records, and updates demographic and immunization information into the immunization module of the Florida Shots Registry
  • Maintains daily and monthly vaccine inventory and vaccine accountability
  • Assists with outreach clinics and outbreak emergencies
  • Other duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES DEEMED ESSENTIAL TO THIS POSITION:

  • Ability to effectively educate and counsel clients regarding vaccine information
  • Knowledge and skill of vaccine administration
  • Knowledge of the childhood and adult immunization schedule
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques
  • Skill in use of computers, including Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to independently utilize the Florida Shots system within two months of hire
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, community partners and other DOH staff
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Ability to monitor processes and measure performance outcomes to ensure continuous quality improvement
