Title:  OPS Dental Hygienist

Location:  Florida Department of Health in Collier County, Naples, Florida

 

We are hiring for multiple positions and are open to full-time or part-time.  Insurance benefits are available for candidates working an average of 30 or more hours weekly, in accordance with Department of Management Services eligibility criteria.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional OPS Dental Hygienist position responsible for the preparation and maintenance of clinical patients’ oral hygiene and periodontal health status in conjunction with the diagnosis and treatment of those patients by a Dentist. This position operates under the general supervision of a licensed dentist and performs all duties allowed under the Florida Dental Practice Act 466.023 and 466.024 and Board of Dentistry Rules 59Q-16.006-16.0079.010. 

 

  • Reviews medical and dental histories prior to treatment. Prepares intra oral and extra oral assessment for deviations from normal. Assesses patient’s dental care needs. Develops individualized dental hygiene treatment plans. Takes high quality digital radiographs and utilizes them in assessing completeness of dental prophylaxis as well as periodontal status, including periodontal charting. Assures proper bill procedures are followed.
  • Performs functions such as placing temporary medicinal fillings, removing sutures, polishing restorations and clinical crowns of teeth, placing put and fissure sealant. Removes calculus deposits, accretions, stains from exposed surfaces of the teeth and gingival sulcus. Performs root planning and curettage as required and the application of topical fluorides as required under the supervision of the dentist.
  • Assists the dentist in rendering treatment at the chairside as required for four handed dentistry such as preparing trays with necessary instruments and supplies and handling them to the dentist as needed.
  • Maintains emergency medication kit. Check and maintain oxygen supplies, automatic defibrillator. Maintain and update Material Safety Data Sheet reports. Compiles reporting on fluoride varnish visits in preparation for data entry.
  • Responsible for keeping sufficient supplies of material and instruments in the operatory. Sterilizes instruments and cleans dental equipment according to infection control, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Departmental guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of dental hygiene principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with children.
  • Ability to positively and effectively work with individuals.
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures and regulatory requirements.

 

Qualifications:

Dental Hygiene licensure in accordance with Florida Statute 466. 

Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. 

A valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation are required and willingness to use personal vehicle for business related travel.

Annual assessment for Tuberculosis.  Certain immunizations may be required. 

May be required to start workday as early as 7:30 AM or end workday as late as 6:00 PM dependent upon scheduling. May be required to work additional hours/flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department and for an emergency.

 

EMERGENCY DUTY: Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.

 

Preferred:

Bilingual English/Spanish.

Certification in Dental Radiography.
