Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Communications Specialist
- The Communication Specialist will possess the knowledge and skills to communicate and share the stories of Rookery Bay’s waters, wildlife and research. As part of the Communications Department, the Specialist will assist in building connections with the Southwest Florida community and visitors to inspire appreciation, stewardship and commitment to protect and conserve Rookery Bay Research Reserve for future generations to enjoy.
- The Communications Specialist will assist in promoting the work of the Reserve and the many programs and events occurring at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center. Strong writing, attention to detail and organizational skills are necessary in this role.
Responsibilities include updating media, partner and hospitality contact lists; sorting and maintaining press clippings; updating digital slides; and compiling monthly events to send to partners and local media.
In addition, the Communications Specialist will interact with all Rookery Bay departments to gather information to create social media posts and stories for a weekly report; take photos and videos of events, activities and staff at work in the field and assist in outreach events.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in MS Office, experience with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva and comfortable creating social media video reels and posts.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA (or currently working towards a degree) in marketing, communications or related field is necessary.
Pay:
$18.00 per hour. 20 – 29 hours per week
