This full-time Other Personal Services (OPS) position is located at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Naples, Florida.  Health benefits are available for this position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent in this position is responsible for conducting mechanical repairs and construction maintenance work in support of facilities and surrounding grounds at the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

 

The duties of the Maintenance Mechanic are to assist with all facilities-related mechanical and structural construction projects, including acting as the liaison between construction managers, architects and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

 

The Maintenance Mechanic works with custodial personnel and performs maintenance duties.  Provides mechanical support for the Reserve fleet, including troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.

 

Provides support for special events including pre and post event set-up and tear down of equipment.  Works with vendors and outside stakeholders, representing the Reserve and agency in a professional and courteous manner.  Works closely with Facilities Manager to establish needs assessments and prioritize projects; provides support for Reserve-wide projects as assigned by supervisor.  Reports directly to the Facilities Manager.

 

Provides support in the event of an emergency at the Reserve including pre-storm preparation, post-storm clean-up and logistical support to return to normal daily operations. Performs various other duties as assigned or required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principals and techniques in proper use of mechanical and power tools used for general maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.  Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs.  Ability to operate state vehicles, vessels, ATVs, mowers and tractors.  HVAC experience preferred.

 

Class E Driver’s License required.
