This is a Career Service Health Support Technician position working in the Lee County Health Department.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Health Support Technician position under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technician III-SES with the Florida Department of Health in Lee County. The incumbent provides public health nursing services for clients in FDOH -Lee clinics. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health, HIPAA, and Information Security and Privacy policies and procedures. Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information. Refers and utilizes DOH 50-10-05. This position has access to the following information sets: Medical Records, Laboratory Reports, Immunizations, and the electronic health records system.

 

Assists APRNs and other nurses in the service of adults with simple procedures, such as recording heights, weights, blood pressures, hemoglobin screening, and temperatures. 

 

Prepares clients for their examinations, directs patient flow in the Family Planning Clinic, assists during the examination, and provides clean up procedures and sterilization of the equipment both during and at the completion of the clinic.  Acts as a chaperone when needed.

 

Assists in collection of laboratory specimens, including blood specimens via proper phlebotomy technique, urine specimens, and swabs for STI screening. 

 

Inventories, orders, and maintains sufficient supplies for clinics.  Maintains rooms and equipment used in clinics and keeps a clean working environment for clients, physicians, APRNs and other nurses following OSHA guidelines for hazardous wastes.  Assembles and distributes information packets to clients as needed.

 

Lab duties include but are not limited to the following: provides back up in laboratory within the parameters of job skills, records daily refrigerator/freezer temperatures, obtains specimens from all rooms, prepares specimens, i.e., centrifuging, log out all specimens, and prepares all specimens for shipping.  Autoclaves supplies as needed.

 

Participates in in-service training and meetings in order to prepare for expanded service in the generalized public health programs.

 

Prepares biweekly Leave/Attendance records and daily Employee Activity Record (EAR) for supervisor's review. 

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.   Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.
  • This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
  • This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.
  • This position is classified as sensitive. This individual will perform tasks defined as sensitive and handles confidential
    information. Background screening is a condition of employment.
