Your Specific Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position include those functions and tasks of a generalized Community Health Nursing Program, primarily in the clinic. Is responsible for providing technical and professional medical/public health nursing information, advice and treatment to patients, families and public groups. Is under the supervision of a Senior Community Health Nurse Supervisor. Assists supervisor in the management of the clinic. A valid Florida Registered Nurse license, valid Florida driver’s license and an automobile are required for this position.

 

Reviews incoming Family Planning labs (Paps, GYN biopsy reports). All abnormal labs given to appropriate APRN for review and follow up. Notifying clients needing repaps by telephone or letter. Maintains tickler system for clients with abnormal paps. Makes referral for follow up when necessary (Private Doctor, We Care, Cancer referral services). Schedules clients for colposcopy/cryosurgery as ordered. Reviews charts for colposcopy/cryo clinic, sets up paperwork for clinic as needed. Reviews pathology with ARNP and carries out follow up per orders.

 

Performs preliminary and exit interviews on Family Planning clients. Counseling clients regularly regarding SBE, STD’s, HIV, Rubella immunizations, reproductive anatomy and physiology. Assists client in making arrangements for auxiliary services, e.g.: colposcopy clinic, nutritional counseling, referral to other clinics, mammograms, ultrasounds, transportation and Social services. Performs limited physical examinations including: height, weight, and hemoglobin, venipuncture for blood tests, blood pressure, temperature and urinalysis.

 

Demonstrates and implement techniques of nursing care and counsel for promotion of Health and prevention of sexually transmitted and communicable diseases. Help the client to maintain a state of wellness though periodic screening procedures, health counseling, provides treatment under providers standing orders and or referral. Performs pre-and post-test HIV/AIDS counseling and Hepatitis screening. Provides education/support to promote individual reproductive and sexual health choices and the prevention of STIs including HIV/AIDS.

 

Interviews clients for STI Testing and treatment to obtain general and sexual health history, including primary complaint, history of present illness, and review of social history as to activities with sexual partners and past or pertinent illnesses including allergies and nutritional status. Counsels clients and contacts regarding risk reduction to STIs including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); provides one to one educational services for the client regarding diagnosis and treatment. Counsel, assess and treat clients with sexually transmitted infections in accordance with provider’s orders, program guidelines and CDC recommendations.

 

Dispenses contraceptive devices, medication and literature. Instructs clients in Family Planning methods. Monitors clients for symptoms of birth control side effects. Instructs and counsels clients concerning benefits and risks of alternative methods.

 

Performs pregnancy testing and counseling according to protocol and Title X and ACOG guidelines. Refers clients for prenatal care when indicated. Documents all test results and counseling in client’s EHR.

 

Performs other related duties, including working where assigned in other clinical areas and at the time of a disaster. During an emergency, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring and assisting the evacuation of employees and clients in assigned areas listed in the Emergency Code Procedure Manual Evacuation Procedure Standard Operating Procedure. This includes directing co-workers and customers, checking rooms and assuring doors are closed as they exit and taking roll-call. Assures roll-call and client lists are sent to the traffic monitors for forwarding to the safety coordinator.

 

Follows FDOH policy for all components of family planning and STIs including handling of medications, vaccines, sharps and biohazards. Uses time, physical facilities, supplies, equipment and other resources appropriately and effectively, and provide appropriately documentation as required.

 

Develops and maintains current knowledge of family planning options, sexual health issues and STIs including HIV/AIDS, Title X guidelines and FDOH protocols and policies. Participates in chart audits for Quality Improvement and participates in quality improvement meetings.

 

Performs other related duties, such as, but not limited to, working where assigned in other clinic areas.

Qualifications:

Minimum - 

Valid Florida Registered Nursing License

Valid Florida driver's license

Experience charting progress notes or events electronically

Experience educating clients and/or the general public

 

Preferred -

Experience working with STD's

Working experience with HMS

Working knowledge of Title X

Experience with vaccinations

Experience teaching clients family planning methods
