This advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Lowell Correctional Institution in Programs & Re-Entry.

 

Salary: $82,636.58 Annual Rate

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. 
  • The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the department’s development, improvement, and readiness initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the department’s commitment to transition efforts for inmates while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • This position meets the Selected Exempt Service (SES) criteria as referenced in F.S. Section 110.205(2)(m).
  • This is a highly responsible administrative position in a correctional institution.  The position reports directly to the Assistant Warden of Programs.  This position is responsible for implementing, directing, coordinating and administering the delivery of inmate development, improvement, and readiness programs at a correctional institution. This position will oversee the daily program operations, attend staff meetings, serve as a duty warden, attend institutional meetings, supervisory meetings and in-service training. 
  • Assists the Assistant Warden of Programs in managing the daily operation of development, improvement, and readiness program which includes academic education, vocational education, faith and character-based, substance abuse, cognitive-behavioral interventions, anger management, parenting, Compass 100, and other betterment programs.
  • Supervises the Education Supervisor, Senior Chaplain and the Substance Abuse Program Director.
  • Assists in the development and/or selection of program curricula. May provide clinical supervision in accordance with 65D-30, Florida Administrative code and supervison of other assigned staff. Assists with the development, improvement, and readiness program evaluation by gathering data and processing, collecting and evaluating reports, program effectiveness reports and inmates progress. Participates in clinical staffing and multi-disciplinary staffings.  
  • Interprets and applies all department standards, policies, procedures and other requirements pertaining to education, substance abuse and other readiness and prevention programs to department staff. Interviews applicants for employment and makes recommendations for hire. Disseminates new and existing policies and procedures to staff as appropriate. 
  • Is a member of the institutional classification team and works cooperatively with other departments and community providers/agencies for transitioning inmates. Completes monitoring compliance reports and action plan follow-up as necessary. Keeps informed of new developments in development, improvement, and readiness programs.  
  • Assists the Assistant Warden in supervising and managing the operation of the institution and enforcement of institutional operating procedures.
  • Assists the Assistant Warden in completion of special projects assigned to the institution. Serves as a member, chairman, or co-chairman of several institutional committees and teams.
  • Directs and supervises employees, monitoring daily activities.  Evaluates employee performance and develops performance improvement plans as necessary.  Counsels, motivates and guides staff in the daily performance of their duties.  Collects and prepares recommendations for disciplinary action against employees believed to have violated departmental rules, policies or procedures.  Ensures staff compliance with mandated training requirements.  Reviews and approves requests for leave, ensuring adequate office and workload coverage.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Six (6) years of experience in a correctional setting or in Programs (Classification, Education, Chaplaincy) or a combination of years of experience in Programs and Security.
    • An associate's or bachelor’s degree may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to (4) years of the required experience.
