This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Marion Correctional Institution in the Education Department.
Salary Rate: $51,500.02 annually
SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing special education services and teaching assigned academic subjects to students with disabilities in a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides consultative and direct services to students, teachers, job supervisors, and other staff, as needed, to monitor implementation of the Individualized Education Plan and discusses/devises methods and modifications to meet individual student needs.
- Conducts Staffing and develops draft Individualized Education Plans for students with disabilities.
- Conducts IEP meetings to finalize Individualized Education Plans for students with disabilities.
- Prepares and maintains all documentation related to students with disabilities.
- Conducts transition planning and makes referrals. This includes liaison and coordination with institutional psychological, medical, and classification staff and may include liaison with other agencies or institutions.
- Identifies needs for re-evaluation and coordinates re-evaluation assessments with Department personnel.
- Counsels and advises individuals regarding their progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Provides specialized instruction, assists teachers with providing accommodations and modifications, and regularly monitors student service provision and student progress.
- Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops to update and enhance skills and to facilitate professional development.
- Maintains Professional Educator Certification with Exceptional Student Education endorsement to include any required continuing education coursework.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
- Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
- SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate. State of Florida Educator's professional certificate in an Exceptional Student Education subject area must be obtained within 36 months of appointment.
