High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Additional requirements:
- Hold Florida State Firefighter Certificate of Compliance.
- Hold a minimum Florida State Fire Instructor I
- Previous experience as an evaluator.
Additional preference:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as training academy minimum standards instructor.
This position will be filled at $16.00 -$24.00 per hour based on education and experience.
Some travel required.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge and use of a computer.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
- Knowledge of the practices and techniques of firefighting.
- Knowledge of the principles of personal safety and first aid.
- Ability to work independently or as a group.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to firefighting.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Keep current on Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Codes on practical examination for certification as a Firefighter I and Firefighter II.
- Prepare practical examination paperwork as required, skill sheets, orientation, summary, ERG tests.
- May be assigned to conduct training academy annual inspection.
- Record test scores into FCDICE.
- Administer practical examinations state-wide for firefighter II certification per Florida State Statute Chapter 633.402 – 633.446, Fire Standards and Training and Florida Administrative Code 69A-37, Firefighters Standards and Training.
- Travel may be required to academies throughout the state to assist at other academies as necessary.
- Abide by the FL State Administrative Procedures & Policies (AP & P).
- Utilize a body camera to record all state practical examinations administered.
- Through the state’s travel system, submit for approval travel to testing locations.
- After testing locations, submit records for proof of travel and reimbursements in STMS and WORKS within 5 days after travel.
- Complete timesheets and submit for approval weekly.
