Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, the MV Compliance Examiner in the Bureau of Dealer Services will conduct inspections of mobile/manufactured homes at manufacturing plants, involving the review and interpretation of manufacturer’s blueprints and specifications; investigating mobile/manufactured homes for structural defects and proper home installations; reviewing and discussing inspection records with plant quality control personnel and/or appropriate management personnel; witnessing and verifying test procedures and auditing manufacturer’s files to assure compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. This position will also be responsible for reviewing and analyzing information and investigating complaints concerning manufactured/mobile homes.  As a MV Compliance Examiner, you should expect to engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making while engaging face-to-face with consumers, mobile home dealers and their personnel, and/or management staff.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to make sound, well-informed, and objective decisions and assist in resolving problems.

  • Ability to prepare reports, including expense reports, reports of investigation, and daily workload reports.

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations, to include calculating square footage.

  • Ability to use machines, tools, or equipment effectively.

  • Skill at using problem-solving techniques through identifying problems, determining accuracy and relevance of information.

  • Skill in providing customer service to diverse clientele in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Skill in using computer, printer, fax machine, telephone scanner, copier, and other office equipment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Knowledge of manufactured/mobile home construction in the areas of structural, plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling, gas, and blueprint reading.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who have the following:

  • Skills in plumbing, electrical wiring, blueprint reading, building inspection, and building construction.

  • Previous experience in manufactured housing industry.

  • Knowledge, skill, ability, or experience using ladders, tape measures, screw guns, welding gauges, electric/continuity testers and reading blueprints.

 

Job Related Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Travel is required, including occasional overnight travel.

  • Must be able to work in inclement weather (extremely hot or cold temperatures).

  • Must be able to climb on top of roofs and crawl under manufactured homes to complete inspections. (Possible exposure to snakes, reptiles and other crawling insects.)

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.

  • Occasional overtime is required (including Saturday and Sunday).

 

General Information
