A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university plus four (4) or more years of professional experience in teaching, school administration, or administering education programs is required.

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or business can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with a master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in education, instructional technology, educational technology, instructional design

Additional requirements:                                    

  • Florida Firefighter II Compliance certification
  • Florida Fire Instructor II certification

Additional preference will be given to applicants with: 

  • Florida Fire Officer II certification or must be obtained within 180 days of employment
  • Two (2) years’ experience as Florida Fire Instructor
  • Experience as fire science program manager
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in distance education and online learning
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience and knowledge of techniques to communicate effectively as well as using information technology resources in verbal and written communications with faculty, staff, and students
  • Experience with learning platforms

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Florida Statute, Florida Administrative Code, policies and procedures relating to educational programs.
  • Knowledge of the techniques for planning, implementing or evaluating educational programs.
  • Knowledge and ability to use audio visual teaching aids and personal computers.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to develop and revise education program courses including curriculum with plan of delivery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of people.


  • Consults with and advises supervisory, administrative and instructional personnel in program development including curriculum content, study plans and instructional techniques.
  • Plans and coordinates statewide education conferences and workshops for educational and administrative personnel.
  • Reviews programs regularly to ensure that activities conform with existing laws, regulations and agency policies.
  • Reviews training and certification education programs and services to ensure that activities conform with existing laws, regulations and policies.
  • Consults on and coordinates statewide programs of educational surveys.
  • Recommends the approval of occupational instructional programs proposed by the training providers, colleges and universities.
  • Identifies training needs of constituent groups and arranges for training to address the identified needs.
  • Provides leadership and coordination for the training directors of training providers, colleges and universities.
  • Provides leadership and coordination for the chief academic officers and chief student personnel.
  • Reviews, recommends for approval, and monitors new course offerings relative to certification.
  • Reviews, and recommends for approval new courses relative to certification proposed by training providers, colleges and universities.
  • Provides leadership and coordination for the continuing education and recertification of fire inspectors and instructors.
  • Provides classroom instruction as needed
  • Performs related work as required.
