The incumbent certifies clients in the main clinic and outlying clinics for participation in the WIC program in accordance with the policies of the WIC program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24. Provides nutrition education contacts to low, high and medically high risk clients as defined by agency policies. May travel to outlying clinics as needed; maintains the same client service standards as in the main clinic. 



This position requires that you have a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition or Dietetics, a Florida License as a Nutritionist or Dietitian and a Registered Dietitian with the Commission of Dietetic Registration. Must have a current valid driver's license and willing to travel to clinics using your own vehicle.



Provides assessment, nutrition education, counseling and breastfeeding support using approved materials and format. Assists clients in setting goals for behavioral change and evaluates client progress in meeting goals. Makes referrals as appropriate. Correctly documents nutrition assessment and care plans in FL WiSE using SOAP or other approved format. Entries are correctly signed and dated with title included. Accurately completes reports and data entry into EARS, HMS, People First, and the FL WiSE system by required deadlines using the FL Wise manual and DHM 150-24 policies and procedures.


Participates in preparation and presentation of newsletters, bulletin boards, in-service training, and other activities as assigned by supervisor. May be required to present nutrition programs to healthcare professionals and community organizations. Provides services to clients in an efficient manner so that clinic flow is smooth and caseload is evenly distributed among nutrition staff. Follows established sanitation, safety practices, and computer and phone use policies. Attends and participates in staff meetings, and professional and staff development activities. Completes required state and WIC training as evidenced by completion certificates or TRAIN transcript. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics. 
  • Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition and dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health and disease. 
  • Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques. 
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports. 
  • Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical dietary and clinical data. 
  • Ability to use various counseling and educational styles.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer, fax, copier, scanner, and printer.
