The Work You Will Do:

SunWatch Supervisor / Turnpike Enterprise / Tolls Systems Support & Maintenance / Statewide Toll Equipment Maintenance

 

This position will ensure 24/7 operational continuity for Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise by overseeing SunWatch operations, monitoring critical roadside and tolling systems, and responding rapidly to incidents. It strengthens agency resilience by coordinating maintenance activities, validating system alerts, supporting emergency response efforts, and ensuring readiness during system changes and state emergencies. The role also enhances organizational performance through vendor coordination, staff development, and the creation and maintenance of standardized operational procedures that align with agency requirements and best practices.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the SunWatch Operations Center staff, a 24/7 operation supporting the Toll Operations group for Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and its facilities. Leads, coaches, and directs SunWatch staff; sets priorities, assigns work, manages shift coverage and on-call scheduling; ensures adherence to policies, rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain continuity of operations and service levels. Ensures adequate staffing and escalation readiness for critical incidents. Provides operational readiness and escalation support during installation, change implementation, cutovers, and go-live activities; participates in hypercare calls and post-change reviews to ensure operational stability. Supports emergency response efforts during state emergencies to ensure continuity of operations; participates in readiness drills and after-action reviews.

 

Reviews, validates, and assesses maintenance alerts and activity requests; attempts corrective actions where possible and escalates unresolved issues to the appropriate teams for resolution. Creates, updates, and reassigns Maintenance Activity Forms (MAFs), including manually creating work orders for issues that are not automatically generated; verifies alert accuracy before dispatching. Coordinates with field staff currently on duty and on-call personnel to ensure timely response and resolution of maintenance activities. Leverages system alerts and diagnostic tools to validate maintenance needs before dispatching resources.

 

Uses monitoring tools and dashboards/alerts to identify, report, respond, dispatch, and escalate issues in a timely manner; provides concise event summaries and updates on Priority 1 incidents to senior management. Monitors integrated systems including roadside toll collection equipment, associated servers, data centers, network integrity, and peripheral systems (e.g., generators, UPSs, physical security, fire alarms). Analyzes available data to validate alerts, distinguish false alarms, confirm issue status, and recommend process or tooling improvements when gaps are identified. Creates and manages tickets/work orders for issues reported via email or phone; ensures proper routing, documentation, and follow-through to resolution.

 

Develops, maintains, and routinely updates standard operating procedures (SOP)s for SunWatch operations; ensures revisions reflect current operational practices and compliance requirements. Identifies cross-team tasks within SOPs and coordinates ownership within the respective Roadside Toll Systems team. Aligns SOPs with industry best practices and vendor standards; ensures consistency across Roadside Toll Systems teams and drives continuous improvement of procedures.

 

Coordinates with internal teams and external vendors to ensure obligations are met and issues are addressed promptly. Performs periodic reviews on vendor monitoring teams and ensures incidents are attended to in alignment with Turnpike priorities. Escalates vendor performance issues to management and ensures alignment with contractual obligations.

 

Performs annual performance evaluations for direct reports and assists in development and training plans. Works with the Toll Systems Training Team and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Performance Development to identify and deliver necessary training; coordinates and supports crosstraining efforts within the Roadside Toll Systems team.

 

Supports cross-training initiatives to enhance team flexibility and operational resilience.

 

Serves in times of emergency to support state response efforts and ensuring continuity of operations. 

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

toll collection systems

roadside equipment, servers, and associated subsystems; monitoring tools, alert dashboards, and diagnostic systems; and corrective and preventative maintenance processes.

 

Skills in: supervising technical staff in a 24/7 operational environment

 using monitoring tools to identify and escalate issues

developing and maintaining SOPs aligned with best practices.
