This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Florida Reception Center in the Chaplaincy Department.
Our mission in the Chaplaincy Department is to provide spiritual guidance, support, and opportunities for personal growth to inmates through meaningful religious programs, compassionate counseling, and dedicated service, while ensuring compliance with standards and fostering a safe and respectful environment within the institution.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Provide counseling and support to inmates on religious, family, and institutional matters, and notify inmates or their families about serious illnesses or deaths.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee religious activities, including worship services, sacred text studies, and ceremonies like Baptisms and Communions.
- Maintain records of religious activities, ensure compliance with ACA Religious Standards, and respond to inquiries about religious matters.
- Supervise inmates working in the religious department, conduct weekly health and safety inspections, and develop goals for religious programs.
- Enhance professional skills through training, workshops, and meetings, and supervise OPS staff by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.
- Must possess an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in theology, religion, education, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, or two years of professional experience as a clergyperson.
- Must possess a ordination or formal investment with ministerial or priestly authority by an ecclesiastical body.
- Must possess a current written approbation and endorsement from the appropriate official of the ecclesiastical body.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
