JOB SUMMARY:  This position is with the Department of Revenue's Property Tax Oversight program, located in downtown Orlando. The incumbent will appraise commercial real property in the surrounding counties to determine just market value for assessment purposes. Duties include: Research and analyze income, cost and sales data in the development of estimates of value for commercial or industrial properties; research and analyze property data and sales through field inspections, review of courthouse records, appropriate sales services, and other contacts as necessary for verification purposes; inspect and appraise real property (commercial, industrial, vacant land), in compliance with Florida Statutes and industry standards. Provide aid and assistance to County Property Appraisers. Research, inspect, photograph and verify sale and income data for use in appraisals. Assemble or assist others in assemblage of schedules pertaining to rental rates, vacancy and collection loss rates, expense rates and capitalization rates. Participate in interviews and reviews with the County Property Appraiser and staff, aid in training/assisting other DOR appraisers, review the work of others for quality and conformance with program expectations. 



  • Possession of a current and valid Florida State Certified General Appraisal license.
  • Four years, minimum, of experience in the appraisal of real property, which must include commercial, industrial and/or multi-family properties. 
  • Experience collecting and analyzing large quantities of sale, income and expense data.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint


  • In lieu of a State Certified General License, the applicant must have completed 300 hours of Florida pre-licensing training, and 3000 hours of USPAP compliant commercial appraisal experience, as a registered trainee, or certified residential appraiser, and be prepared to sit for the General license exam.


  • Completion of International Association of Assessing Officers, or Appraisal Institute courses. 
  • Work experience in mass appraisal
  • Certified Florida Evaluator (CFE) Designation

  • This position is in the Orlando Field Office.
  • DOR hires at the base salary, stipend provided for State Certified license holders, $2500 per year for certified General, $1200 per year for certified Residential.
  • QE & CE provided, as necessary.
  • Telework provided after successful completion of probationary/work evaluation period.
  • Candidate must be available to travel, occasionally be away for several days at a time.
  • Work duties require candidate to work on foot, in various weather to properly measure buildings and parcels.
  • Candidate may be required to provide own means of transportation in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Candidate may be required to work weekends to complete an assignment on schedule.
