Background Screening Technician

What you will do:

As a Background Screening Technician, you will assess confidential and/or sensitive documentation from multiple sources to complete Level II background screenings for the Department of Children and Families, those volunteering with, or seeking employment directly with and with facilities or entities licensed or regulated by DCF and APD. Background Screening Technician are responsible for making eligibility determinations based on established statutory criteria.

Receive data and documentation to assign, provide access to the various systems, DCF, CLH in order to commence the Background Screening process. Receive Out of State documentation to process Child Care screenings.

Process various incoming Clearinghouse screenings (i.e.: non-ident, agency reviews, and resubmissions, rejected prints, FBI,) to assist with maintaining the appropriate service levels. Provide correspondence to all applicants or providers as needed. Process Florida Safe Families Network (FSFN) for the Background Screenings that required such requests within service level objectives. Perform data entry for background screening results. Review and process work received in the Background Screening mailboxes.

 

Assist Background Screening Helpdesk with calls as needed.  The position will also provide support to applicants and providers who contact the Background Screening Helpdesk for assistance by coordinating or performing the work necessary such as research questions/issues regarding specific requests and resolving inquiries. Enter progress notes in both Background Screening data bases, Workforce Management and Clearinghouse. 

 

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Typical duties for a Background Screening Technician will include:

  • Understand the Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code and DCF Operating Procedures as they apply to Background Screening to make employment eligibility determinations.
  • Ensure confidential treatment of documents and findings.
  • Participate in and process the various workloads that make up background screening for DCF, adjusting priorities as needed based on fluctuating business demands.
  • Actively establish professional working relationships with other departments and programs by demonstrating professionalism through positive work habits, being helpful to customers and cooperative with teammates and leadership.

 Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multi telephone line experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to explain and discuss background screening topics with the general public and Background Screening leadership.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work simultaneously in multiple computer databases.
  • Open to constructive feedback to guide work performance.
  • Ability to use critical thinking and apply problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to follow standard processes and procedures.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency and technical aptitude in MS Office (Word and Excel)

  • Ability to execute the completion of work assignments within established timeframes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
