Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for coordinating economic development project activities and managing communication and processes as part of the business development team. This role supports the implementation of Florida’s Economic Development Programs under the purview of the Florida Department of Commerce Division of Economic Development.

Duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Coordinate project activities with business development managers, including updating CRM and organizing incentive applications.
  • Support Recruitment outreach, including international and domestic recruiting and marketing trips, trade shows, and consultant events, including business and consultant appointment and event scheduling, assisting in identification of meeting targets, and communication outreach via phone, email, mailings, web, while managing budget expectations.
  • Support project managers to respond to information requests, including Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposals (RFP), and prepare formal presentations for business prospects in partnership with economic development organizations and partners.
  • Review, evaluate, investigate, and make recommendations on incentive applications for state incentive programs to support job creation and retention.
  • Communicate, address questions and resolve issues regarding incentives procedures, policies, and decisions to businesses, partners, and consultants.
  • Market Florida’s industry-specific assets to prospective businesses.
  • Provides input into prospect development activities.
  • Demonstrates business acumen by understanding how businesses work – how organizations develop strategy, utilize technology, serve clients, succeed against competition.
  • Research business climate issues and conduct analysis for project proposals affecting the targeted industries.
  • Collaborate with consultant/company during and after the incentives approval process, including compliance timelines, incentive payout schedules, workforce and repeat business
  • Develop and maintain relevant relationships with local and regional economic development agencies, workforce and labor, stakeholders and other key government agencies.
  • Act as a liaison for current and prospective businesses, provide assistance with understanding State economic development rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and develop data on sector specific businesses, growth, and opportunities, while directing long and short-term planning and other studies and reports. Summarize and survey relevant literature and provide critical commentary.
  • Analyze economic information such as reviewing financial statements, marketing studies, economic studies, plans and specifications.
  • Exercise independent judgment within general policy guidelines
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records. 

Minimum:

  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.
  • Travel may be required.

Preferred:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or two years previous economic development experience

Pay:

 The Development Representative III serves as a Junior Project Manager and is responsible for coordinating project activities and managing communication and processes as part of the business development team. This role supports the implementation of Florida’s Economic Development Programs under the purview of the Florida Department of Commerce Division of Economic Development.
