Minimum Requirements:

Professional Experience

  • Work directly with individuals with disabilities
  • Advocacy or support services for individuals with disabilities
  • Other experience in competitive integrated employment settings

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in the following fields: Counseling, Business, Psychology, Education, Public Safety, or Criminology and 3 years of professional experience.

                                                   OR

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in relevant fields and 2 years of professional experience.

 

Job Description:

This position provides professional vocational rehabilitation consultation to private providers, helping individuals with disabilities obtain or maintain employment in the workforce. Responsibilities include developing resources, implementing special projects, and coordinating complex services. The role serves as a liaison to support counseling, job placement, and career planning, ensuring quality casework and effective partnerships for successful employment outcomes.

Duties include reviewing eligibility determinations, Individualized Plans for Employment, service authorizations, and case closures; monitoring resource use; maintaining client records and automated systems; and preparing reports on service quality and timeliness. The position also provides technical assistance and training to staff, recommends policy or procedural improvements, and ensures compliance with established guidelines.

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential. Consistent attendance, the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, and courteous, cooperative interaction with others are required for success in this role.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: 

Knowledge of the theories and practices in vocational rehabilitation guidance and counseling; interviewing techniques; medical and psychological aspects of disability groups; principles and techniques of effective communication; employment resources and vocational rehabilitation resources; and, methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.

Ability to compile, organize and analyze medical, vocational and psychological data; administer tests and analyze results; provide counseling and guidance in career planning; develop individual vocational rehabilitation programs and place clients in appropriate vocation; communicate effectively; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Background Screening Requirement: 

It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment undergo level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirement of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment of being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
