MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Florida Department of Health (DOH) employee.
  • At least one year of verifiable environmental health regulatory work experience with the Florida Department of Health.
  • A valid FL driver’s license OR a valid driver’s license from another state (will be required to get a FL driver license within 30 days of hire).
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle to complete site inspections in Orange County.
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, lift and carry 50 pounds, maneuver different types of terrain, and use fine motor skills to obtain soil, water and other samples.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct routine investigations of reported animal bites and issues quarantine and release notices as needed as directed by supervisor. Sends animal heads to Jacksonville Laboratory when needed for rabies analysis. Assures letters to victims of animal bites are delivered and given proper information when needed.

Conducts inspections of DOH regulated facilities generating, storing, transporting and treating biomedical waste (BMW). Review records and policies of these facilities to ensure proper handling and disposal of regulated wastes. Provide consultation and assists facilities in developing and implementing BMW disposal plans. Conduct follow-up visits to ensure compliance as necessary.

Perform other duties including inspection of tanning facilities, mobile home parks, body piercers, tattoo artist and wells.

This position is responsible for improving environmental health performance by completing their assigned community environmental health expectations.

Will be available for emergency duties as required.

Maintains confidentiality and security of records as specified by department regulations and laws.
