This advertisement is for a Career Service position located in Region 4 reporting to the Office of Inspector General, Bureau of Internal Affairs.  The selected applicant shall reside within 50 miles of the assigned geographic area. The geographic area of responsibility for this position includes the following counties:

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Displays initiative and organization skills in conducting administrative investigations.
  • Prepares and implements investigative plan.
  • Focuses investigation on objectives necessary for prosecution.
  • Displays creative planning and seeks innovative resolutions.
  • Goals, objectives, and assignments are met efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Consistently allocates resources to maximize efficiently and successful case completion.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and monitors expenditures.
  • Develops case targets.
  • Displays knowledge, skills and the ability to perform job, including preliminary investigations, follow-up investigations follow up leads, interviews of victims, witnesses, and or subjects.
  • Conduct investigations, including the managing the scene, collection of evidence, submission of evidence for forensic processing.
  • Display capability to collect evidence, establish and maintain a chain of custody in accordance with OIG policies, and FDC procedures.  
  • Displays competence and understanding of tasks and goals of administrative investigation.
  • Monitors digital communications and electronic intercepts within the prisons, including inmate telephone calls, mail, visitor lists, etc.
  • Properly testifies at legal, judicial, and administrative proceedings.
  • Applies Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Codes, current case law, Office of Inspector General Policies, and FDC Procedures to all job-related functions as applicable.
  • Utilizes technical investigative equipment.
  • Maintains control of evidence in compliance with Florida Statutes, current case law, OIG Policies, and FDC Procedures.
  • Applies the Correctional or Police Bill of Rights pursuant to §112.532, F.S. when conducting administrative investigations.
  • Applies Whistle Blower provisions pursuant to §112.313187-112.31895, F.S. when conducting Whistle Blower investigations.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet the minimum qualifications and standards as set forth in section 943.13, Florida Statute and possess an active Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer Certification.
  • Must possess at least seven (7) years of full-time experience as a Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer within a criminal justice agency with four (4) of the seven (7) years of experience conducting investigations or have a minimum of four years as an inspector within the FDC Office of Inspector General.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Unsworn investigative experience within a State of Florida, Office of Inspector General, can count on a year-for-year basis, for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of s.112.532 – 112.534, F.S. (Law Enforcement Officers’ and Correctional Officers’ Rights)
  • Highly skilled in time management and organization.
  • Strong investigative skills with emphasis on comprehensive investigations and interviews.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Prior employment with the Florida Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer

 

 FLORIDA STATUTE 943 REQUIRES THAT ANY PERSON EMPLOYED IN THIS CLASS MUST:

  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Be a citizen of the United States, notwithstanding any laws of the State to the contrary.
  • Be a high school graduate or its "equivalent" as the term may be determined by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission of the Department of Law Enforcement.
  • Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
  • Have his/her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency.
  • Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the Commission.
  • Have a good moral character as defined by Administrative Code 11B-27-0011, by a background investigation under procedures established by the Commission.
  • Possess a current certificate of correctional officer, correctional probation officer compliance for basic employment certification issued by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
  • Pass a urine drug test as a condition of employment.
