Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the fields of : biological sciences and/or public healh field (e.g. epidemiology, biosatisics, population health, healthcare administration, qualify improvement, community healh, program management,etc)
  • One year or more of professional experience conductiing Health equity/disparities or community health activities
  • One year or more of conducting health related presenations to a diverse group of community members
  • Emergency Duty
  • Current Florida Department of Health Employee

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a professional position in the Office of Community Health responsible for the implementation and evaluation of community engagement models that contribute to the reduction of health disparities in Orange County.  The models must be proven to have a long-lasting and community-wide impact resulting in policy, systems and environmental changes.  The position will also provide technical assistance to other departments and community-based organizations and other groups in areas related to addressing health disparities.  This position requires previous experience working with racial and ethnic minority groups, low income communities, and culturally and linguistically diverse groups; experience implementing community engagement models and evidence based practices with long lasting and community wide impact; experience in work towards policy, systems and environmental changes; experience coordinating and mobilizing coalitions and/or large groups of people.  This position will be responsible for:

 

  • Identifying, implementing and evaluating community engagement models and evidence-based practices that focus in the reduction of health disparities and improve health outcomes;
     
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating policy, systems and environmental changes that have long lasting and community wide impact in the reduction of health disparities; Provides leadership and technical assistant to the Infant Mortality Task Force; the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR), and Florida Healthy Babies
     
  • Provides data analysis support for population health projects with specific emphasis on health equity and social determinants of health. Note: Population health is used to refer to data analysis that look at health outcomes, patterns of health outcomes in the population (including determinates of health) and the impact of policies and interventions on the health outcome of specific populations or groups.
     
  • Provides technical assistance to internal programs and external in an effort to reduce health disparities among racially, ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse groups; 

 

  • Manages the yearly Health Equity Awards efforts and the Minority Health Month efforts;

 

  • Works with department grant writer to identify funding opportunities and assists in the development of grants to target areas with highest health disparities in the county;

 

  • Attends required meetings and performs other duties as assigned;
