Public Defenders Office – Witness Interviewer

Job Description Overview: We are seeking a motivated and dependable Entry-Level Interviewer who is fluent in Haitian Creole and English to assist with interviewing defendants and witnesses as part of our legal team. This position plays a key role in gathering accurate and complete information to support legal representation and case preparation.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct in-person and/or phone interviews with defendants and witnesses, primarily in Haitian Creole.
  • Accurately translate and interpret questions and responses during interviews.
  • Summarize and document interview findings in written reports.
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys, investigators, and support staff regarding interview outcomes.

Ancillary Duties:

 

  • Provide interpretation services at the jail or detention center as needed.
  • Assist with data entry, case documentation, and maintaining organized records.
  • Perform other clerical or support tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Fluency in both Haitian Creole and English (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills for dealing with clients and other professionals.
  • Ensuring accuracy and consistency in all communications.
  • Manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Comfortable working in legal or correctional settings.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and data entry systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in line with the Florida Bar guidelines.
