This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Florida Reception Center in the Chaplaincy Department.

 

Our mission in the Chaplaincy Department is to provide comprehensive spiritual care and support to the inmate population by fostering opportunities for worship, religious education, and personal growth. Through compassionate pastoral care, effective program management, and collaboration with staff and volunteers, we strive to meet the spiritual, emotional, and personal needs of inmates while upholding institutional policies and promoting a positive and rehabilitative environment.

 

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Plans and oversees religious programs for inmates, including worship services, religious education, and special events, while addressing their spiritual needs.
  • Provides personal support to inmates during difficult times, such as family emergencies or personal crises, through counseling and pastoral care.
  • Handles administrative tasks like scheduling, managing volunteer activities, processing marriage requests, responding to grievances, and preparing reports.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers, ensures proper documentation, and organizes observances for religious holy days.
  • Manages the department's budget, ensures compliance with policies and standards, and communicates with staff about programs and activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing and able to train and support chaplaincy staff and volunteers without bias, ensuring an inclusive and legally compliant approach that accommodates diverse religious, cultural, and personal beliefs.
  • Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in theology, religion, education, or one of the social or behavioral sciences or four years of professional experience as a clergyperson.
  • Must possess an ordination or formal investment with ministerial or priestly authority by an ecclesiastical body is.
  • Must possess a current written approbation and endorsement from the appropriate official of the ecclesiastical body.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
