The FDVA Nursing State Veterans’ Nursing Homes and Domiciliary are designated employment sites for the Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program.
- From funds available, the program may make nursing education loan repayments of up to $4,000.00 per year, per nurse enrolled in the program, for a maximum of four years.
- Payment is made at the end of each 12-month enrollment period and made directly to the participant’s lender.
- Enrollment and payment of awards is based on available funds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
- Must have a valid Florida Registered Nursing license.
- Must have supervisory experience working in a long-term care facility.
- Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must have a valid CPR certification.
- Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a valid Level II background screening and drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
- Previous long-term care experience with geriatric population.
- Possess average computer skills.
- Experience with Electronic Medical/Health Records.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent is responsible for providing quality professional care to the veteran residents to ensure their health, safety and security in accordance with established agency Standard Operating Procedures and Nurse Practice Act.
Provide initial and ongoing assessment of the resident population.
Perform assigned duties to include, but not limited to, administration of medications and treatments per Medical Doctor (MD) order, monitoring and providing interventions to meet the needs of the resident, completing accurate clinical documentation reflective of resident’s current status and providing supervision and guidance to the Registered (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and other Allied Health Care Professionals.
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON).
Supervise and direct nursing personnel on an assigned shift. Ensure that the nursing personnel are following their job descriptions and that the residents are receiving total nursing care.
Review shift assignments and ensure that the assignments reflect the ability of the staff person to meet the specific nursing care needs of the residents.
Ensure that work assignments are written, dated, and posted.
Receive notices of absence when nursing staff calls off, and coordinates assignments to maintain regulatory compliance and meet the needs of the residents.
Notify Administrator and/or DON of any emergency situations in the building.
Make daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being met. Observe all nursing staff giving care at least once during an eight-hour shift.
Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the facility and nursing department. Follow all local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Comply and perform within the scope of practice as defined by the Florida Nursing Practice Act.
Assist in review of policies and procedures. Ensure that reference material at the nurses’ stations is current. Make recommendations to DON for improved and/or additional items.
Review and follow-up incidents and/or complaints occurring on assigned tour of duty. Complete reports and forward to DON/RN.
Ensure that all verbal orders, including telephone orders from attending physicians are reviewed by a registered nurse. If no RN is available, receive all telephone orders from physicians.
Will give Basic Life Support (CPR) when necessary.
Assist Nursing Program Specialist in ensuring that all assessments are completed prior to the Interdisciplinary Resident Care
Plan Committee meeting. Check all documentation related to assessment for those residents scheduled for Care Plans. Ensure that any incomplete documentation is finished within twenty-four (24) hours of scheduled Care Plan Conference.
Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensure that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest.
Participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
Actively participate in continuing educational programs for self-development and in overall quality improvement programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
