Starting salary:

 

$64,5000.00.  The salary is commensurate with experience, plus State of Florida employee retirement and insurance options, attorney benefits, paid holidays, and paid leave.

 

Job Description:

 

The State Attorney’s Office for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes committed in Orange and Osceola counties. We are seeking Assistant State Attorneys that have good judgment and share the office’s mission to keep people safe by prosecuting those who disrupt our community and to ensure the pursuit of justice is done in a transparent, fair, and thoughtful way that maintains the trust of those we serve.

 

Applicants must have (2) to (6) years of prosecutorial or criminal defense experience. Applicants must possess a strong interest in courtroom litigation, with excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Positions in this classification generally perform mid-level, professional legal work and under close supervision and will assist in the prosecution of cases of routine complexity.

 

Applicants considered for employment will be required to pass a background check including fingerprinting, and are required to have proof of identity, and proof of US citizenship OR legal right to work in the United States.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the conduct of jury trials, preliminary and pretrial hearings, and related courtroom proceedings.
  • Investigates, evaluates and prepares cases for trial.
  • Conducts case research and documentation.
  • Communicates and serves as a liaison with victims, family, witnesses and community partners.
  • Manages caseload.
  • Coordinates with community partners and the public to support and promote criminal justice efforts and crime prevention initiatives.
  • Professional interaction with the public, law enforcement, and office staff.
  • Applicant must be able to work independently and as a team member.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Juris Doctor Degree required
  • Experience in criminal justice, legal or generally related field is required; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

 

Specific License or Certification Required:

 

Must be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
