Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is a Dental Hygienist for the DOH-Putnam School Based Sealant Program (SBSP)and the On-Site Dental Clinic This position must be able to work independently and have the skills and initiative needed to seek and develop opportunities to provide services through the SBSP. The general duty of this position is to support all activities approved by Florida Department of Health and the State SBSP and the on-site Dental Programs including, coordination of the SBDP and provision of dental hygiene services including screening, cleaning, fluoride treatments, and sealants. The position will provide services and education to students and families in Title I schools, Title I After Care Programs, and other health department or community settings. The State SBSP Goal is to promote dental health, prevent dental caries, and link children and their families to a dental home. Provide prophylactic dental hygiene services for pre-school and school age children including screening, cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, and provide oral hygiene and dietary instruction to children and their parents/guardians.  Effectively interact daily with pre-school and school-age children, addressing questions, fears, and behavioral issues.  Build a daily schedule at least one week in advance of event day. Email schedule to teachers, school administrators, school health personnel, and the SBSP supervisor. Schedule and provide dental hygiene presentations and education with Title I School students and or parent/guardians. Distribute and collect consent forms. Effectively interact with school personnel, including school administrators, teachers, custodial staff, and school health personnel.  As requested, represent FDOH-Putnam at school functions; interact effectively with parents/guardians, students, community members, school administrators, school health staff, and teachers.

 Screen and provide preventative services to at least 4 children per hour, as school schedules permit, with a minimum, an 80% sealant retention rate for one year.  Review all documents for positive consent to provide services for each child participant, confirming parent/guardian signature.  Ensure reports are submitted in a timely manner as determined by the State SBSP.

Provide dental hygiene services in the on-site Dental Clinic.

Order and maintain dental supplies and equipment as recommended by the State SBDP.  Complete mandated forms with 100% accuracy.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of dental terminology, dental hygiene principles, practices, and procedures.  Skill in using dental instrument and equipment.  Skilled in performing prophylaxis, instructing patients in preventive dental techniques, and using general office equipment i.e., personal, or portable computers. Ability to follow general office procedures & practices, prioritize, plan, organize & coordinate work assignments & communicate effectively verbally & in writing, establish & maintain effective working relationship with others, to understand, interpret & apply applicable rules, regulations, policies & procedures.  Ability to assemble, disassemble, and transport portable dental equipment to and from school settings with time proficiency, based on distance, in county designated vehicle.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum - Registered Dental Hygienist; Minimum 1 year working as a hygienist

Preferred – Fluent in Spanish, experience with pediatric dental patients, experience with sealants, DOH experience
