Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent, an employee of the Florida Department of Health in Putnam County, works to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts.  The incumbent is expected to promote innovation by searching for creative solutions and managing resources wisely.  They are expected to collaborate through teamwork to achieve common goals and solve problems.  The incumbent is expected to be accountable and perform with integrity and respect.  They are expected to be responsive by serving our customers and engaging our partners.  Finally, the incumbent is expected to perform with excellence by promoting quality outcomes through learning and continuous performance. 

The person in this position must be knowledgeable about current nutrition practices, therapy modalities and client education that are relevant to nutrition and disease. Communicates effectively with others verbally and written. Conveys information to others in a clear and concise manner. Ability to document in medical records to SOAP (Subject, Objective, Assessment and Plan) noting format. Ability to persuade others to change between behaviors in favor of a healthier lifestyle. Ability to multitask to meet needs of the agency. Ability to counsel and refer clients to promote health and nutrition goals. Attains knowledge of structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.  Knowledge of the principles of nutrition and how they relate to disease prevention. Basic understanding of the philosophy of digestion, metabolism, and absorption as they relate to overall nutrition.

Certifies clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with the policies of the State WIC Program and regulations as stated in DHM-150-24. Develops, monitors, and revises Nutrition Education plans for individual clients not determined medically at risk. Provides breastfeeding information and counseling to WIC clients, community, and private sectors. Documents in FL Wise according to established policies and procedures indicated in DHM-150-24.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition or dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health, or disease.
  • Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to develop educational/training plans and supporting materials.
  • Ability to use various communication channels to provide education/training.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data.
  • Ability to interview and counsel patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

Minimum:

An ACEND-Accredited Degree, Bachelor's or Higher in Dietetics, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Public Nutrition or Food and Nutrition.

Preferred:

Spanish Speaking and/or work experinece with the WIC Program
