THIS IS A STATE OF FLORIDA CAREER SERVICE (CS) OPPORTUNITY. 

 

Job Description:

This is a full time Senior Word Processor position, which is in the Division of Blind Services, District 9, Palmetto Office.  The goal of the Division of Blind Services Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program is to assist individuals with visual impairments in achieving or maintaining an employment outcome that is consistent with his/her unique strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed choices.  This position will provide general office support including but not limited to data entry, copying, faxing, scanning, answering incoming telephone calls and providing support to the Assistant District Administrator as needed. 

 

Examples of Work:

  • Act as a reader for the Counselors as needed.
  • Operate the state vehicle as needed and follow all guidelines in relation to the use of state vehicles.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards required by all State Employees.
  • Support and assist the Rehabilitation Technician as needed with intake services and case management activities. Intake services include gathering eye medical and other information for the purpose of eligibility determinations conducted by the Counselor.
  • Obtain an understanding of various eye conditions and their impact on functional abilities, knowledge of community resources, and the ability to convey that knowledge as it relates to eligibility and provision of rehabilitation services.
  • Read eye medical documents to assist staff in determining eligibility.  Gather necessary eye exam reports and liaise with medical providers as needed.
  • Provide invoice processing and filing support to VR staff in the district.
  • Utilize scanner/copier equipment to assist the Rehabilitation Technician.
  • Provide telephone coverage in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner, deliver messages accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Greet visitors and assist in an appropriate manner; and always maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with clients and visitors to the office.
  • Provide information and referral services for individuals inquiring about DBS services.
  • Provide transportation to staff as needed using the State vehicle following all guidelines and policies in relation to the use of the State vehicle. 
  • Assist the vehicle custodian by conducting regular vehicle inspections. Assist with scheduling regular vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Serve as the back-up to the office inventory custodian or delegate and assist with the required annual property inventory.
  • Assist with maintaining office automation equipment and assist staff with IT issues as needed.
  • Read and process incoming and outgoing hardcopy mail for the Panama City office.
  • Assist the Rehabilitation Technician in setting up case files and maintaining correct case file order as assigned.
  • Perform accurate document filing for VR counselors and support staff as needed.
  • Follow and adhere to all State confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Assist district office with purchasing and procurement using MFMP and/or Authorizations in accordance with State, FDOE and Division purchasing guidelines.
  • Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Input work hours into the People First System daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.
