The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation is comprised of six Sections and two offices. This position works within the Public Access Services Office (PASO) of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation.  

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma and five years of professional experience in editing and publishing. A bachelor’s degree can substitute for four of the five years’ experience. Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

Preferred qualifications 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  1. Ability to analyze needs and product requirements to create a design 
  1. Knowledge of publication production and print process 
  1. Ability to evaluate photography for use on web, print and sign products 
  1. Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects, has strong attention to detail 
  1. Self-directed and able to work as an effective team member 
  1. Ability to travel for short overnight trips of 1-2 nights. 
  1. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite 
  1. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and InDesign 
  1. Photography skills preferred  
  2. Website skills via WordPress preferred

 

Description of Duties:

Graphic Design – 50% 

Selects, prepares, creates, reviews and completes free-hand or computer assisted artwork, graphics and typography using Adobe Creative Suite. Reviews and edits guide book designs in Adobe Illustrator. Designs publications, marketing materials, and other public information products. Maintains updated design standards for appropriate, graphically pleasing and accessible public communications. 

 

Production Management – 30% 

Tracks the publication production process, ensures timely product completion from concept to graphic design to printing to delivery. Obtains quotes, coordinates with business manager to ensure timely issuance of purchase orders and processing of invoices. Updates and maintains a database of products including type, dimensions, cost, production date and vendor. Organizes and maintains electronic records such as print or fabrication production specifications, contracts and photo releases. 

 

Photo Management – 15% 

Assists selecting appropriate photos for use in Wildlife Exploration products. Helps manage photo database using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Secures and stores photo and model releases. Identifies gaps in photography resources and conducts photo shoots or secures photography as needed.  

 

Other Duties – 5% 

Attends staff meetings, participates in professional development courses as appropriate. Responds to telephone and mail inquires. Occasional participation in agency outreach events. Travel with overnight stays may be required.
