The Work You Will Do:

  • Responsible for assisting with the development of the service delivery strategies for participants, with an emphasis for U.S. military veteran jobseekers, to provide outreach and facilitate placements to meet the employment needs of the participants by conducting job search assistance and when appropriate, job development activities

 

  • This position may work directly with employers to identify and secure job opportunities that align with the participant’s Individual Reemployment Plans (IRPs) and job search goals. Confer with supervisor to assist in identifying improvement processes and developing solutions.

Where You Will Work:   

This position will primarily work out of the American Job Center located in Panama City, Florida.  Panama City is centrally located in Northwest Florida between Pensacola and Tallahassee on Florida’s Gulf of America coast.  The Panama City/Bay County area consistently ranks above the national average for quality of life.  The area is well known for its beautiful beaches that feature 27 miles of white, sandy coastline along with countless recreational activities, an active arts community, and southern hospitality culture.  

 The specific work unit in which the position is located in Panama City at CareerSource Gulf Coast.

Pay:

Annual Salary: $44,060.11

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Veteran Specialist ensures that all job development activities are individualized, participant-centered, and especially focused on veterans, in returning to work quickly.

  • Conducts specialized assessments to participants to develop employment goals, appropriate objectives, and services that will lead to sustained careers and lasting self-sufficiency.
  • Engages in one-on-one job matching to connect participants with suitable job opportunities.
  • Provides personalized resume and interview coaching specific to employer needs, ensuring participants are well-prepared for employment opportunities.
  • Conducts outreach to employers and engages in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for participants.
  • Evaluates community organizations to assess and leverage assets that can be utilized to mitigate individual barriers and challenges to employment.
  • Assures compliance with the Department of Commerce (Florida Commerce) management information system by recording accurate and complete case management activities and case notes.
  • Reviews programs, services, forms, reports, analyzes data for compliance with state and federal statutes, policy and regulations and confers with management and users to identify problems and improvements.
  • Provides outreach to local organizations, such as, but not limited to local colleges, technical training centers, apprenticeship programs, and community based (non-profit - including faith-based) to create and expand mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Facilitates individualized hiring events and/or custom job referrals.
  • Advocates for the hiring of, and promotes credentialing and licensing opportunities, for veterans.
  • Interviews and conducts an initial assessment of participant needs and provides services or referrals as appropriate.
  • In addition to Veterans, provides services to one or more of the following customer groups:  WP, WIOA, SNAP, WTP and the universal candidate.
  • Maintains an updated community resource guide to advise participant of opportunities for employment, training, and other services.
  • Ensures that all activities are properly recorded in Employ Florida with accurate and timely case notes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Performs other duties in accordance with the CareerSource Center’s locally established procedures

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
