Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a position of Health Support Specialist at the Florida Department of Health in Bay County. The position is responsible for performing all technical duties and assisting clinicians, with specific responsibilities for maintaining and updating lab protocols. This position will provide backup support for other Health Support Specialists for all duties including ordering and stocking of lab supplies, performing and recording designated controls and calibrations on equipment per routine schedules, preparing lab specimens for transport logging specimens in the lab book, verifying all specimen requests for accuracy and providing routine cleaning and maintenance of clinic rooms and lab areas. The Incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and confidentiality of sets under his/her control. 

 

Laboratory: Performs phlebotomy on adults and children for specimens ordered. Maintains all Instruments Including and cleaning. Organizes and maintains the lab area. Maintains Lab Protocol book with current forms and Information. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment Prepares all lab specimens for transport, logs specimens in the tab book and/or computer lab module. Verifies all specimen requests for accuracy. Receives all labs sent to the Florida Department of Health in Bay County. Delivers the lab results to the record room and follows up when lab result is not received in a timely manner.

 

Clinical: Administers a variety of hearing and visual tests. Measures, graphs and records blood pressures, height, weights, performs urinalyses, hemoglobin, glucose testing and pregnancy tests. Records chief complaint, informs physician and nurse of client condition and changes, calls to examination room, prepares client and assist clinician’s physical examination, including Family Planning and sexually transmitted diseases. Instructs client on how to collect specimens, delivers specimens to laboratory, operates and keeps pace with clinicians, and orders stock and maintains levels. Prepares clinic rooms by obtaining supplies and equipment. Arrange instruments, equipment, and other sterile articles. Clean room after client visit.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred:

Must be physically able to walk and stand for long periods of time, bend, climb one flight of steps, turn patients and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.  Must be willing and able to complete phlebotomy course.

 

Qualifications:

Moderate computer skills. Excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
