Your Specific Responsibilities:

This Nursing Program Specialist is responsible for performing nursing and case management for HIV positive clients and the Chronic Hepatitis C program clients of the Bay County Health Department under the direct supervision of the Senior Registered Nurse Supervisor.  Maintains confidentiality regarding all client information.   Some travel is required. Strict adherence to all security guidelines is expected.  The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Bay County Health Department in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision of being the Healthiest State in the Nation.  Furthermore the incumbent is expected to incorporate the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence in all aspects of their work. The incumbent will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all clients and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and clients.

 

HIV/AIDS Clinic 

For persons identified as HIV/AIDS positive, provides nursing interventions based on nursing assessment consistent with the quality standards as defined by Public Health Nursing practice based on theory and research and using the HRSA guidelines for quality care for HIV/AIDS patients.  Provide interventions such as teaching, counseling, and administration of treatments and therapies as prescribed by the clinicians.  Manages patients with HIV disease and ensures that physician’s/APRN orders are followed.  Works with clients to link clients to other care as recommended/referred by physician or APRN.  Attend training as needed or required.   Works with health department clinicians in a cooperative manner to ensure quality care for clients.

 

PrEP Clinic

Provide assistance as back up for persons identified for the HIV PrEP (PreExposure Prophylactic) Clinic. Maintains confidentiality regarding all client information.  Provide case management, evaluate and encourage and educate high risk negative individuals on PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).   Provide interventions such as teaching, counseling, and administration of therapies as prescribed by the clinicians.  Provide PrEP clinical services and protocol according to CDC and State guidelines.

 

EARS and Staff Meetings

Completes all required reporting such as EARS, documentation requirements, requests and assignments correctly and within allotted time frames.  Attends staff meetings, in-service trainings and other professional and staff development activities.

 

Other Duties

Assists in additional office related activities and duties as assigned.

Performs quality audits for HIV clinic. 

Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Phlebotomy, ability to multi-task, organizational skills, ability to use basic clinical equipment needed to measure vital signs, effective communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be culturally competent, recognize the importance of timely documentation and service entry, use of electronic charting.

 

Qualifications:

Registered Nurses License.

Valid Driver’s License

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
