Your Specific Responsibilities:

This Nursing Program Specialist is responsible for performing nursing and case management for HIV positive clients and the Chronic Hepatitis C program clients of the Bay County Health Department under the direct supervision of the Senior Public Health Services  Manager.  Maintains confidentiality regarding all client information.   Some travel is required. Strict adherence to all security guidelines is expected. 

 

For persons identified as HIV/AIDS positive provides nursing interventions based on nursing assessment consistent with the quality standards as defined by Public Health Nursing practice based on theory and research and using the HRSA guidelines for quality care for HIV/AIDS patients.  Provide interventions such as teaching, counseling, and administration of treatments and therapies as prescribed by the clinicians.  Provides nursing treatments in the clinic for HIV positive individuals.  Manages patients with HIV disease and ensures that physician’s/ARNP orders are followed.  Tracks patients in HMS case management module for HIV/AIDS patient care.  Works with clients to link clients to other care as recommended by physician or ARNP.  Attend training as needed or required.   Works with health department clinicians in a cooperative manner to ensure quality care for clients.

 

Provide assistance as back up for persons identified as having Chronic Viral Hepatitis (HVB or HVC), informs of options for monitoring and treatment of disease.  Provide case management for those individuals identified as part of the Chronic Hepatitis C treatment program to include, but not limited to screening clients for eligibility for program, providing education on treatment, assisting clients to apply for compassionate drug programs with pharmaceutical companies, providing assistance in referrals to other services as recommended the physician or ARNP. Attends training and assists with Statewide Hepatitis Counsel as needed.

Performs quality audits for HIV clinic.

Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be an independent worker, self starter.  Moderate computer skills including Word, Excel and Outlook. Phlebotomy skills, CPR certification.

Qualifications:

Must hold a current, active Florida registered nursing license or a multistate licensing from another Compact State.  Valid drivers license.
