THERAPY AIDE SUPERVISOR – SES (ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be an employee of the Florida Department of Veterans' affairs
  • Must have a valid Florida Drivers license
  • Must be licensed in Florida as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body OR is eligible for licensure as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional
  • Must possess two (2) years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one (1) of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program OR is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II background check and drug test

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two (2) year of supervisory experience
  • At least five (5) years of long-term care experience
  • Experience working with large numbers of volunteers and volunteer groups
  • Familiarity with resident care plans and MDS
  • Familiarity with purchasing procedures for ordering supplies, equipment and performing entertainers

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Activities Director is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program.  The incumbent works on an independent basis and is responsible to plan, develop, ‎organize, implement, evaluate and direct a program of therapeutic recreation and ‎activities to meet the individual needs of residents. These programs are designed to give residents entertainment, intercommunication, ‎exercise, relaxation as well as the opportunity to express creative talent.  The ‎incumbent ensures that residents in the Veterans’ Nursing Home receive fulfillment of ‎their basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs in accordance with current federal, ‎state and local standards.  This position reports directly to the Nursing Home ‎Administrator.‎

 

  • Evaluate recreation therapy programming based on individualized preferences, abilities, issues, concerns, problems or needs
  • Use such findings to develop, organize, plan and implement innovative therapeutic recreation programs to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of each individual resident
  • Completes accurate progress notes, observations/assessments and MDS interviews. Enters this data electronically in a timely manner for each resident
  • Supervises and directs CNA Therapy Aides, Motor Vehicle Operator and volunteers in the recreational activities
  • Prepares performance standards and reviews, schedules attendance and approves leave
  • Supervises, coordinates, and directs volunteer programming
  • Maintains daily and monthly records of resident/volunteer attendance and participation in recreation activities for essential reporting
  • Leads activity programs as scheduled
  • Serve as a representative of the Activity Department on interdisciplinary team with the responsibility of ensuring the residents' measureable objectives are consistent with overall quality of care
  • Creates and approves the monthly activity calendar of events and facility newsletter. Assists with donations to the nursing home and the completion of thank you letters, if needed, in a timely manner
  • Completes purchase orders for equipment and entertainment as required per Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) purchasing procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required to include special events at the facility and outside of the facility (i.e. American Legion, VFW, etc.)
