Your Benefits are a significant part of your state compensation. The total compensation package could be anywhere from $84,923 to $96,874 annually. The total compensation package includes annual salary, insurance, retirement, leave and holidays.

What will I be doing?
As an Attorney Hearing Officer, you will represent the Bureau of Administrative Reviews by:
- Conducting formal administrative hearings pursuant to Florida law, including Sections 322.2615 and 322.64, Florida Statutes.
- Responding to inquiries from customers and members of the public as they relate to legal requirements and FLHSMV policies as they apply to license issuance and sanctions.
- Writing final orders with factual and legal analysis concerning driver licenses or automobile dealerships.
- Performing other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in criminal, appellate, and/or administrative litigation.
- Skill to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and ability to understand Florida Statutes, the Florida Administrative Code, federal statutes, case law, rules, regulations, and FLHSMV policies and procedures.
- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Using relevant information and individual judgment to make sound, well-informed and objective decisions.
- Ability to prepare for and conduct hearings.
- Ability to work under stressful situations.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position is an attorney with a minimum of three years of legal experience, two of which are as an Assistant State Attorney, Judicial Staff Attorney, Public Defender, or similar. Experience conducting administrative hearings is strongly preferred. An ideal candidate will possess excellent research and writing skills and litigation experience. An ideal candidate will also have an outgoing personality, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and will be able to explain complex legal issues to members of the public.

Special Notes
- The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant’s criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.
- The selected applicant must be a member of The Florida Bar (a lawyer) in good standing.
- This position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. A driver’s license history review will be conducted on all candidates in consideration for this position.
- Travel is required.
- This position may require lifting boxes up to 30lbs.
General Information
- The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
- Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
- The process for selecting applicant(s) for this position could take up to six months. Following the six-month period, a new application must be submitted to an open advertisement to be considered for that vacancy.
- FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
