Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a clinical support position in the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD) Family Health Clinic. This position performs a wide range of duties under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. Travel may be required.

 

Clinic Duties: Performs clinical procedures, to include: (1) Properly performing vital signs and entering into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). (2) Preforms intake interviews (including Hepatitis assessments, documents allergies, provides HIV pre/post counselling, and pregnancy status counseling) and inputs into EHR. (3) Prepares patients for clinical assessments by the provider, administers basic first aid, assists with patient examinations, operates office medical equipment, and performs aseptic procedures. (4) Collects routine laboratory specimens as directed by the clinician and performs basic laboratory procedures to include rapid pregnancy tests and venipuncture. (5) Inputs lab requisitions into Change Healthcare, manifests labs at the end of the day, packages and transports lab specimens as required by local protocols.

 

Clinic Support Services:  Prepares clinic area for clinic services (i.e., stocks exam room supplies, maintains equipment, maintains educational folders for each exam room, prepares supply requisitions weekly and stores supplies in assigned locations.  Keeps clinic area clean and free from hazards.  Cleans exam rooms per “Infection Control Policies”.  Follows OSHA standards for Hazardous Waste.

 

Clerical Support Service: Gives information and referrals to telephone clients.  Makes appointments in Health Management System (HMS), checks client information in HMS and Florida SHOTS, prepares charts for type of visit.  Takes messages for clerical staff, other Health Support Technicians (HSTs), nurses and clinicians.  Shreds confidential papers as assigned.  Reviews posted schedule of assigned duties of other support members.  Records all services completed on client Encounter Forms for the Lab, ensures Lab request forms are taken to the Lab when completed by the clinician. Performs office procedures including all general administration duties required, (i.e., coding for reimbursement, patient education, recording histories, etc.).  Inputs real time Employee Accountability Record (EAR) data into the HMS System daily and certifies the EARs daily. Performs Quality Improvements (QIs) of EHRs monthly.

 

In-Service/Staff Development & Other Related Duties: Participates in staff development programs and in-service programs related to job performance.  Other related duties, which may include clinic and emergency assignments as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Candidates can demonstrate the KSAs below:

  • Ability to operate computerized programs and systems in order enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information into or from electronic health records and scheduling systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology specific to understand medical diagnosis and procedures sufficient to communicate clinical staff instructions to patients.
  • Ability to work within a team in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties performing patient support work.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professional in person, electronically and/or by telephone, with internal and external customers.
  • Skilled in customer service with the ability to identify customer concerns, and refer to the appropriate staff, as necessary, to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Knowledge of basic lab procedures including collection, processing and shipping of urine, blood, and other types of lab specimens.
  • Knowledge of sterile processing, autoclave operation and maintenance, and documentation of autoclave runs and spore tests.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum     – 1-3 years of job experience in a medical office or healthcare facility working as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, or phlebotomist. High school education.  

 Preferred    – Two years college or technical school with Certification as Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, or Nursing AssistantThree years or more of job experience in a medical office or healthcare facility.
