Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is clerical support work providing services in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program in Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD). This position performs a wide range of duties under the direct supervision of the Office Operations Manager I – SES. Duties may be performed at the main clinic or any of the WIC satellite clinics. Adheres to standards and protocols as set forth in the WIC manual DOH150-24, Florida’s WIC Information System and EBT (FL WiSE) data system Guide and other written protocols. Utmost security is required, and the incumbent must be bondable. This position requires a high degree of accuracy and above average skills in working with dates and figures. Travel may be required.
Responsible for interviewing clients to determine initial and continuing financial and categorical eligibility of clients for WIC services based on established criteria. Documents eligibility and financial information in FL WiSE, obtain client signature concerning accuracy of information and enter data into FL WiSE. Makes referrals to appropriate clinics or private physicians according to established procedures. Refers clients to nutritionist for counseling according to established guidelines. Confidentiality of information shall be maintained at all times. Verifies special formula amount and type provided by nutrition staff prior to issuing in FL WiSE.
Issues electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards to eligible participants according to established WIC procedures. Obtains electronic signature of participant. Ensures clients are notified at least 30 days before their certification expires. Ensures clients are notified at least 30 days before an infant assessment is due. Ensures that WIC participants and their proxies understand their rights and obligations for use of WIC EBT cards. Schedules return appointments. Follows protocols for interactive nutrition education and documentation.
Maintains necessary files and records in accordance with established procedures. Completes inventory reports as required. Handles inquiries and routine complaints concerning the WIC Program. Checks in clients when arriving for their scheduled appointment. Calls clients with a telephone reminder call of their upcoming appointment. Calls other WIC agencies to verify client eligibility information for clients transferring into our agency. Will order supplies for administrative staff as needed. Reads and adheres to all policies and procedures provided in newsletters, emails, and other written information.
Obtains anthropometric data on women, infants, and children that will be used to determine eligibility for the WIC Program. Utilizes proper techniques for weighing and measuring as approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Draws blood for hemoglobin or hematocrit following agency protocol. Documents results in FL WiSE. Assists nutritionists with determining appropriate nutritional risk and assigning proper food package. Follows the Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines for lab cleaning protocol and disposal of contaminated materials. Maintains laboratory logs and supplies.
Other related duties as assigned following established procedures. Participates in all WIC and FDOH-Escambia functions as scheduling permits.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Basic computer skills (i.e., Excel, and Word) and Data Entry.
Qualifications:
Minimum – High School Diploma, 1-3 years work experience, and a valid Driver’s License.
