Position Title: OPS Environmental Specialist I

Location: Pensacola (Escambia County), Panama City (Bay County), Tallahassee (Leon County)

Salary: $18.00/hr.

Minimum Requirements: 

• Associate of Science in engineering or one of the natural sciences or currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering or science program at the junior level or higher

• Valid Florida driver license

This position is assigned to the Compliance Assurance Program and is responsible for compliance activities in support of Specific Appropriation 1633 provided for increased water quality monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supports, conducts and/or documents compliance activities as assigned, pursuant to requirements of Chapters 373 and 403, Florida Statutes, including but not limited to:

 •Assisting and advising owners/operators with compliance issues as appropriate.

•Accurate and timely entry of required data and system information into agency databases and Oculus. 

•Conducting site inspections for compliance and conditions of issued permits.

•Recommending compliance and enforcement actions as appropriate. 

•Drafting basic compliance and enforcement documents such as Compliance Assistance Letters, Warning Letters and Model Documents. 

•Providing outreach and compliance assistance to owners/operators as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

a. Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of engineering or natural science.

b. Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.

c. Ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret technical reports and supporting documentation.

d. Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

e. Ability to work independently.

f. Ability to prepare technical reports.

g. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

h. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and leadership.

i. Ability to interact with customers in a tactful and courteous manner.

j. Ability to travel and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Please note that this is a temporary position that may be limited to 28 hours per week for a period of 6-months, July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019, with the option to extend for an additional 6-months based upon funding and performance.

Multiple positions to be filled from this advertisement, location of each position will be either Pensacola, Panama City or Tallahassee.
