This position will be responsible for planning and providing health education services at assigned schools to encourage adoption of healthy lifestyle choices and requires independent problem-solving using good judgement and skills within parameters established by law and policy. This position acts as a liaison between the Florida Department of Health – Escambia, School Health Program and assigned schools. The position functions with direct supervision by the School Health Nursing Supervisor. Travel may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promotion of positive health and development of students. Employ a variety of strategies to promote health education and healthy lifestyle behaviors for students. Assist in planning, development and providing targeted education in response to school requests. Uses data to plan and evaluate compliance with state statutes. Provide research and development of evidence based educational materials and presentations. Assist with designing, conducting and data analysis of student, faculty and parent surveys.
Manages student health related records according to confidentiality guidelines and program standards, if applicable.
Prepares and submits reports for school health division for programmatic monitoring and evaluation. Complete timesheets, employee activity records and all other required documentation within agency established timeframes.
Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing annual flu vaccinations in selected elementary and middle schools. Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing required and recommended vaccinations in middle schools. Provide immunizations and assist with school health physicals to school-age students during summer months.
Attends in-service and educational programs related to public health. Participates in team and committee meetings regarding health services, health curriculum, including safety and wellness.
Other Related Duties as Assigned: Will perform other duties as needed. Ensures that data set(s) under incumbent’s responsibilities available to those who need to know, protects the integrity of assigned data set(s) and assists the Security Coordinator as needed to comply with policies and procedures.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of health promotion
- Skills in operating a variety of computer equipment
- Proficiency in computer programs to include PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Word, Outlook
- Professional written and oral communication skills
- Ability to plan and deliver health promotion and public health education presentations
- Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the community regardless of educational or socioeconomic level, culture, or ethnicity
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments
- Ability to collect and analyze data
Qualifications:
Minimum:
1 to 3 years work experience
A valid Florida driver’s license
License per Florida Statute 464. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 or possess a nursing multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Associates or higher in nursing
