Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is an independent Registered Nurse position at the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD) assigned to Clinical Nursing, primarily to the Immunization Program area, and may require assisting in other clinical programs under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. This position works in a clinical setting but may require fieldwork. Ensures that all data set(s) under this position’s responsibilities are available to those who need to know, protects the integrity of those assigned data set(s), and assists the Security Coordinator as needed to comply with policies and procedures described in Security Policy 3 - areas of responsibilities. Travel may be required.
This position will provide patient centered interactions:
- Respects patient and family values and expressed needs.
- Encourages patients/parents/guardians to practice positive preventative health-related behaviors.
- Communicates with their patients/parents/guardians in a culturally appropriate manner, in language and at a level that the patient understands.
- Greets each client and introduces self to client prior to each clinical visit.
- Maximizes clinic productivity and clinic flow by minimizing client wait times and by working efficiently. Works closely with direct supervisor and other nurses to ensure all clients are taken care of in an expeditious manner.
- Communicates effectively with parents about age-appropriate vaccinations and follow-up care.
- Promotes and maintains health of individuals, families and community through appropriate preventative and rehabilitative measures.
This position will provide immunizations to both children and adults:
- Provides nursing in Immunization Clinic and Foreign Travel Clinic.
- Requires knowledge of routine immunization schedules, administration techniques, use of VIS statements, internal procedures, and computer system for data entry in HMS and FLSHOTS.
- Requires knowledge of vaccination requirements for international travel.
- Updates FLSHOTS prior to vaccination administration to eliminate wastage.
- Administers oral, intramuscular, internasal or subcutaneous vaccinations per established protocol.
- Provides educational materials and counseling to clients as indicated by health care needs.
- Documents administration of vaccination(s) as required by the program for every clinical visit, using FLSHOTS and HMS as appropriate.
- Reports any abnormal reactions to vaccinations to supervisor immediately and documents the event appropriately.
- Captures client services on encounter and HMS with clinical visit.
- Provides appropriate copies of immunization records to client at the end of every clinical visit.
- Reinforces with clients verbally when the client is to return to the clinic for care.
- Assists in immunization services in community locations as needed.
This position will perform patient triage and record reviews:
- Uses FLSHOTS/HMS to evaluate the child’s health status or medical record prior to each clinical visit.
- Ensures that documentation is accurate in each client’s electronic record in FLSHOTS and/or HMS; each is updated with historical vaccination records and current demographics information.
- Completes required QA/QI activities.
This position will also assist in the functioning of the Clinical Nursing Team:
- These services include childhood and adult immunizations, growth and development monitoring, assessing of vital signs, counseling, health screening, health education, maintaining quality records in the clinic or community setting,
- Participates in daily huddle.
- Plans leave well in advance, taking in consideration the needs of the Clinical Nursing Team (unless acute illness).
- Attends and participates in general staff meetings and trainings.
- Completes all job-related assigned webinars and online trainings.
- Completes Employee Activity Reports and submits timesheets per agency standards.
- Provides back-up support to Pharmacy Nurse; completes inventory management duties, submits orders and distributes vaccine and medication orders to all clinical nursing areas, as needed. Performs vaccination and/or medication reconciliation, signs daily Verilert temperature inspection reports and weekly Log Tagger downloads per protocol.
- Provides back-up support to the direct supervisor when delegated.
Clinic Support Services
- Provides vaccine follow-up support to clients by phone.
- Provides front desk support for Immunization Clinic.
- Secures full sharps containers, stores full sharps containers in designated area, and replaces containers as needed in clinic areas.
- Immediately reports non-functioning or broken equipment to direct supervisor.
Leadership and Other Related Duties
- Precepts students/residents and trains new staff as requested by supervisor.
- Acts as a Positive role model to other DOH staff.
- Other related duties, which may include clinic and emergency assignments as required.

Qualifications:
Minimum - Active Florida Registered Nursing license or Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
Preferred – 1-3 years of Pediatric experience
