This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Taylor Correctional Institution Chaplaincy department.

The mission of the Bureau of Chaplaincy Services is to provide comprehensive spiritual care and support to inmates, staff, and their families. This is achieved through the coordination and delivery of religious programs, worship services, pastoral counseling, and educational opportunities. The Bureau aims to foster an environment of hope, healing, and personal growth, promoting the overall well-being and rehabilitation of inmates while respecting diverse faith traditions and beliefs.

 

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Make a profound impact by interviewing and counseling inmates on religious, family, and institutional matters, offering guidance and support during their time of need.
  • Be the driving force behind our religious programs by coordinating and scheduling all activities and responding to related correspondence and calls with efficiency and care.
  • Ensure excellence by keeping meticulous records of religious activities and maintaining compliance with ACA Religious Standards.
  • Show compassion by visiting sick inmates and staff and providing crucial notifications to inmates and their families about serious illnesses or deaths.
  • Lead with purpose by supervising inmates working in the religious department and performing weekly Health and Safety inspections to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • This position may supervise OPS positions by communicating with, motivating, providing, or coordinating training, assisting in evaluating employee’s work or planning and directing employee’s work.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
    with a major in theology, religion, education, or one of the social or behavioral sciences,
    or two years of professional experience as a clergyperson.
  • Must possess an ordination or formal investment with ministerial or priestly authority by an ecclesiastical body.
  • Must possess a current written approbation and endorsement from the appropriate
    official of the ecclesiastical body.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
