Your Specific Responsibilities:

The OPS Dental Assistant position is expected to work four days per week (32 hours).

  • Must be able to pass instruments to dentist during procedures, as well as take and process dental X-rays
  • Lay out instruments and materials needed to treat each patient, and make patient feel comfortable in the dental chair before and during treatment
  • During treatment, dental assistant keeps patient’s mouth dry by suctioning
  • Properly applying sealants, cavity liners, varnishes and bases
  • Preliminary charting of existing restorations and oral conditions; inserting and removing dressings from alveolar sockets
  • Removing surgical dressings
  • Placing or removing rubber dams or temporary restorations with non-mechanical hand instruments
  • Application of topical fluorides
  • Taking impressions
  • Taking Digital Radiographs
  • Provides oral hygiene instructions to patients
  • Preparation and maintenance of operatory room and clinic
  • Operate computer system to enter patient information
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining inventory and supplies
  • Monitor work e-mail
  • Enter time worked in People First and EARS
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and work with other sealant staff and supervisor to address opportunities

 

Other Duties:

  • Performing clerical duties as needed
  • Entering time worked in People First and EARS
  • Attending mandatory trainings
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of dental terminology
  • Ability to use dental equipment as required
  • Knowledge and experience in working with children
  • Ability to work with diverse population
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Knowledge of dental insurance
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and use a telephone
  • Ability to interact professionally with other DOH staff and the public and provide excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the internet and computer systems such as Microsoft Office and entering data into a database
  • Ability to accurately document patient records
  • Knowledge of Eaglesoft Software a plus
  • Knowledge of HMS State of Florida a plus

 

Qualifications:

  • A valid Florida driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) is required.
  • A FL Board of Dentistry certificate in radiology and expanded duties is required.
  • Fluency in English/Spanish or English/Creole is preferred.
